The cattle activity in the Andean steppe is the principal economic occupation in the Nor-Yauyos.
For about 85% of the families it is the only real source of income for the sale of their products and sub products:
animals, cheese, sheep wool, alpaca fiber, leather and crafts.
The Program of Cattle Development promotes the cattle development, sheep, South Americans camels and bulls. This way, the program stimulates the suitable management and health of the cattle, the genetic improvement of the herds, the rational use of the pastures (to avoid the depredation of pastures), the commercial and enterprise management of the area farms and the training of men and women as technical personnel in cattle.
The Cattle Program is conducted in coordination with every rural community and concretely with the directives of the farms of the area, with the help of Valle Grande.

Management, health and nourishment of the cattle
The management of the animals has a very important cultural connotation. Seasons of traditional management exist and it is necessary to adapt the technical calendars of management and health, besides the fact that the cattle infrastructure is minimal what doesn’t lend us to realize very important works in the most suitable epoch of the year. It this way Valle Grande works for the development of these aspects and also supports the people of the area in topics of health and nourishment of the cattle. This is realized across natural pastures, that depend on the seasonal variation of the rains (abundant from December to March).
